Liquid seeped into display panel - is it ruined?

Hi group.

I managed to spill Martini down the display of my wife's white MacBook. It wasn't a huge amount of liquid but it did run down into the crack at the bottom of the screen where the bezel meets the LCD panel. Immediately, the screen began going a funny color down in that area as the liquid seeped into what I guess is the space between the panel and the glass covering it. I turned it off immediately and let it sit for a day. This is a pic 1 day later:

I turned the machine on only long enough to snap the picture and it remains off now. I wasn't able to find anything in the forum that addresses this problem specifically so I'm wondering if this will dry out or if the display is ruined.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris

I'm looking at a removed screen from a MacBook. What I think has happened is the bottom of the frame filled and capillary action has draw the liquid in between the layers. The only real fix is a replacement. Here's how to do it: MacBook Core 2 Duo LCD & Inverter A1181 (fast method) Replacement

The likelihood of saving the screen is slight in my opinion. It's according to how dry the martini was and if it was shaken or stirred. Shaking yields a colder but more watered down drink. The alcohol should evaporate quickly, the vermouth and water more slowly. I would put it in a 200 degree oven, face up, overnight and see what the results are. What have you got to lose?

Thanks for your answer, mayer! Capillary action is the word that escaped me and I think you're right on the money. The martini in question was shaken, so there would be a good portion of water and not just vodka. I'll take the panel out and let it mellow in a warm oven and see where it takes me.

Thanks for the tip on the fast way replacement, it'll come in handy I'm sure!

If you have any questions or comments on the fast replacement guide just ask me, I wrote it, so if there's anything I need to change let me know.

I used the "keep warm" setting on my oven at 150 degrees F. I had the unit in and out but after a few hours on and off, the liquid is almost totally gone. There's a bit left which I think will dry out in the next few hours. I did not remove the panel from the assembly, just popped the battery out. The only thing left beyond the remaining small amount of liquid is a bit of residue from the other ingredients in the drink (olive juice I suspect).

Thanks mayer!

That's really great. You might want to turn it up just a bit. Grain alcohol (ethanol)boils at 78.5° C (173.3° F)

Of course the water goes at 212 degrees and the paper at 451 (thank you Ray Bradbury)

I think mayer is right about the capillary sucked in liquid. It is actually possible to disassamble, clean and reassamble lcd-screens. Given the spirit of this side this would be a honourable try, but then it's around 60 bucks (sorry, euros) for a new lcd - is it worth the trouble?
