My element tv that I have had for a god 2-3 years has developed like 5 or so black lines that make the more of the top of the screen darker and this is on all inputs this appeared randomly and not a consumer mistake

Sounds like you may have a thermal crack on the internal screen if you do not see any crack on the outside.
It could have also been caused by something accidentally hitting it or when moving it. It doesn't take much to damage an LCD.

Thanks I'm probably just going to buy a new TV and maybe scrap this one and check out your explanation

Depends on if it's left on for how long. Heat can cause it. It's really hard to say, but the cost of a replacement screen would probably be more than buying a replacement TV. Manufacturers pay much less as they can mass produce the screens.
