3DS shuts down on sleep mode have iFixit 64 Driver Kit

So i originally had an R button problem and tried the "blowing into R button trick" to get it to respond. It worked for a while but then I did it too many times and the street pass light(the one that turns green and blue when street and spotpassing) turned solid red.I don't know what I did but it stayed on like that for a while and would fade in color when i pressed the R button. Then the light faded away on its own.

So this prompt me to buy the iFixit 64 Driver Kit to get to the bottom of this and see what was wrong.I then went to Mcdonalds to streetpass and when I was there the green light didn't show up but when i opened it I had gotten some streetpasses. So I thought i must have blown some dirt into the system and messed up the streetpass light or something and also wanted to completely fix the R button.

I found a small phillips screwdriver and opened the back could only proceed to removing the battery. The screw driver was garbage so couldn't access the R button or see what was wrong with the streetpass light.

Well a day before my iFixit 64 Driver Kit arrived i accidentally dropped my 3DS in the shower so it got some water.I grabbed it quickly and set it aside. When i went to check it it would turn on and off.I opened the back and saw some water in the battery.I wiped it dry and it seemed to stop doing that. Then I noticed the streetpass light was solid green. It shouldnt be doing this but then other problems came sometimes the top LCD screen lost its backlight for a while. The A button would sometimes not respond.when i go online it would give an error message and turn off.All that went away and the green streetpass light faded away.

All these problems went away real quick but then when I closed the 3DS it wouldn't go to sleep mode it just shut off .So I can't street pass with this problem and also I need to get to the bottom of what is wrong with that streetpass light acting weird(remember It was acting funny before it got water damage).

When my Driver Kit arrived I took it apart and clean only some dirt on the R button area.took and put back on the R button ribbon and fixed the R button problem once and for all.I didn't see any water in the motherboard .I couldnt access the front of the moderboard where the "A,B,X,Y" bottoms are or the streetpass light because the back of the motherboard was all I could get access to at the time.I looked at some YT videos on how to tear down the 3DS but it daunted me when I was at the back of the motherboard because I have to take off more stuff like the circular pad and everything.

I plan on going back to do it again and try to disassemble everything but cant diagnose what exactly is the problem that makes the 3DS shut off when it tries to go to sleep mode.

So that is the only problem I seem to have now.It charges right,it turns on and off when I want it ,i can go online,I can play a game and play online.the top and front LCD's are fine,I can turn it off and the buttons work, nothing wrong except I cant close it and let it go to sleep mode.I probably have that streetpass light problem too.

I've had this 3DS for a while (bought from ebay) so no nintendo warranty but it was great and came complete with the original box.I want to keep it working for as long as possible as it the original aqua color one. What do I need to do?How do I thoroughly clean it and what should i look for?

Update (09/06/2017)

So I did take a pic of what it looked like when it got water in the battery after I wiped it dry.The streetpass light was solid green. It faded away eventually. It only did this when I turned it on.Prior to it even getting wet it was solid red when I blew into the R button too many times trying to fix the R button problem.I didn't take a pic of that though.

(I'm having problems uploading these pics so this might take a while so bare with me here.I thinks it's the forum acting funny)

Here are some pics I took today while tearing it down.I cleaned everything with alcohol. The back of the motherboard, connectors, ribbons.the battery connectors.more on the way.

Update (09/07/2017)

Here is where I ran into a problem. The guide didn't have this but the SD card slot is partly soldered on.This prevented me from taking it out completely.I did take out the ribbon connector but when reassembling it the ribbon connector wouldn't connect right and did not recognize my SD card when turning it back on.The soldered part made this part harder.I eventually snapped it off from moving it up and down and this made it able to completely remove it and easier to snap the ribbon into place and to screw back on.No problems with this.

Update (09/07/2017)

Here is the front of the motherboard.I cleaned everything here. This is where I stopped and didn't go further disassembling it.Only thing I noticed was this thing, close to the streetpass light. This gold square thing looks burnt. Is this the problem?I tried cleaning it with alcohol but it doesn't completely come off. This is the only one that looks like this. The other squares are all gold. The street pass light was what first gave me concern when I saw it turn red after continuously blowing into the R button. And this square thing is exactly in close proximity to where the R button and street pass light is located.

Yes I know.I did take pics but I spent the whole day yesterday trying to upload them here and kept getting an error message. "Unknown error while uploading file:

I looked and found out this thing is the heat tray and under it is the processor.Oops I was suppose to dig in the middle and remove the adhesive holding the sd card holder and heat tray.Seriously that thing wasnt coming off and I didnt understand what they meant.Oh well I can just remove it next time and solder the heat tray back. That is if I dont need to get a new motherboard if its burnt.

The R button could have been a fixable problem (if I had the driver kit at hand)but the initial blowing into the button caused the streetpass light problem. The water damage just gave me another problem (not able to go to sleep mode when closing it).

Should I continue going further?Or have I found the problem?Where to next?

On a side note, that was horrendous trying to get these to upload.it took multiple attempts but these are the best that came out

Hi!

Disassembling your 3DS seems like the best thing you could do right now. Follow this guide to get to the motherboard, YouTube videos are not always 100% accurate. As you said, cleaning all the contacts on the ribbon cables and the board itself is also a great idea. Use Q-tips and rubbing alcohol - (isopropyl, highest purity you can find) and gently clean everything. If you see something that looks off on the board, like burned spots, report back, also update your post with pics.
