Post battery replacement - unit is dead

Followed the instructions to replace the battery. Once connected (w/case open) the screen illuminated and the Apple logo was displayed. Reversed the process and closed the case and the unit is now DOA. Reopened case but unit is still dead. Any ideas beside the trash?

David,

Charge the battery for at least 7 hours then power it on again. There was probably enough energy left in it to start to boot and then it went dead. Batteries are shipped with a minimal charge. You need to charge fully before you can use them. Please let us know if that helps!

Also did you replace the electrical tape over the solder terminals! That is very important as a short could render the logic board useless!

The display was functioning until I closed the case. I will charge it overnight and check to see if it accepts a charge. Are there any test points on the board to test for voltage or can I check on the lead terminals? I would like to isolate where the problem is however if it's the board it's probably going in the trash.

David, start with your solder points first. Make sure that they make good contact and that the solder is correctly applied and that no solder crossed to another point and produces a short circuit.

When the IPOD is attached to the USB it is not recognized by the PC. I am assuming in this state that it will not charge. Any thoughts.

In theory if everything else is working within your iPod it will still charge since the charging circuit is not software driven. Also use a USB port that comes right of the mother board and do not use a HUB or any of the more remote ports. I usually try to charge my battery of a wall charger

It should still charge. iTunes and your PC won't see it since the OS is not working as there is no juice. Give it a good charge and let us know. If that doesn't do it there's a chance you shorted the wires or terminals while soldering which may have resulted in the logic board going bad.
