Device will not hold a charge.

So I have a Braven 805 portable Bluetooth speaker. It no longer charges or even hold a charge. It turns on and works when plugged into the wall and appears to be charging but the moment you unplug it it shuts off. I've left it plugged in for over 8 hours and it still shuts off the moment it gets unplugged. At this point i dont know what to do.

It is easy to remove the batteries from the Braves 805. Begin by removing the buttons on the top side using a pry tool and slotting it between the buttons . The buttons have catch on both sides to hook on the speaker main body

Next, turn the speaker over and remove the grey rubber feet on the left and right side.

Removing the rubber feet presents 2 screws beneath remove the screws, do the same for the other rubber feet.

A small black rectangle plastic sits beneath one of the rubber feet , using a thin flat head screwdriver remove it as well

With all the obstruction out of the way, slide the main body of the speaker either way to separate it from the coloured speaker grill which is red in this case.

There are 6 screws beneath the foam dampers, using a long + screwdriver remove all 6 screws noting that the 2 centre screws are shorter than the 4 corners screws. With the screws out the way , remove the cover that houses the passive bass radiators.

The battery is secured to the main speaker body by 4 screws , remove the screws and place them aside. The battery is connected to the circuit board via a 3 pin connector which is located beside the 12V power connector. Replace the faulty battery with suitable 7.2V battery pack. Replacement battery pack should support temperature monitoring , this corresponds to the middle pin or the yellow cable. With a replacement battery installed assemble the speaker in the reverse order.

personally i reused the original board from the failed battery pack , replacing the 2 pieces of 18650 cells with 4 pieces in 2s2p arrangement for 7.4V , 4400mah capacity. The speaker battery life is approximately 48 hours continuous playback at 50% volume.

hope this helps.

No Idea if you'll see this or not... I've wired a 2s2p pack of 18650s, I just don't know what to do with the BM spot on the original charging board. Thoughts? THANKS! -ck

Does anyone know what the screws at the bottom are? I have tried several small hex or Allan keys. Nothing fits.

The problem may lay with the internal rechargeable battery. Over a period of time even rechargeable batteries will be unable to recharge due to something that happens to most rechargeable devices. They develop “charging memory”…this effect causes the battery to cease charging to it once full capacity. This effect can be delayed by charging your device fully when you first start using it and use it till the power runs out. Then recharge it at that time. Recharging when the device is half full or having it plugged in all the time hastens the memory effect of your battery.

Your only solutions to the issue you have at this time would be to replace the internal battery or replace the unit entirely.
