Repaired ylod, lost it's backwards compatibility

I repaired a backwards compatible ps3 after it got the ylod using the ifixit kit, and it works fine now, except that it no longer has the ability to play ps2 games. This feature was the only reason it was repaired, is there a reason this feature would be lost, and is there a way to restore it?

Hi @snafumonkey79, can you try playing any DVD Video disk?

из

Yeah, that's definitely the first thing I'd try in this situation.

Is this a slim, super slim, or fat model? If it's not too much trouble, what is the model number?

из

@pccheese The only PS2 backwards-compatible PS3 is the FAT, to be more specific, the FAT with 4 USB ports and memory-card readers.

@alexniculescu I know that. That's why I was asking. But strange thing can happen, so it doesn't hurt to ask.

@snafumonkey79 just in case it doesn't work, here's a potential work-around: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=3...

Edit: the backwards compatibility happens because of the emotion engine chip, according to this: http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/30444/t1.... I'd make sure that's connected correctly, etc.

Check out Step 35 of the teardown for a look at where it is: PlayStation 3 Teardown.

@kaykay I did not notify you about Rachel blowing right past 500 points because she still had an iFixit avatar up. It now appears she wants that tee shirt since she's just a peon now ;-)
