Is my PS 3 Power supply unit damaged?

Hi, my PS3 was hit by a sudden power surge when I was watching YouTube on it. Now it won't power on and only flashes the usual lights then off it goes. Is it possible that my psu has been damage? The power supply unit is aps 226. Ps 3 is 1st gen 80 gb. What screwdriver would I need to pull the psu and what kind of damage or signs should I look out for when inspecting it.

Hi!

It is very likely that your PSU has been damaged, tho other damage to the main board should not be excluded...

Use our guide here to get to the PSU. Once there, you have to figure out how to remove the metal case it's in, but it shouldn't be difficult. Look for any blown capacitors - actually any sign of burns. I think you may be able to replace whatever is broken with basic soldering skills, but don't quote me on that. If you find not signs of damage, I'd suggest that you simply get a new PSU...

Hi, will inspect it and see if it is really just the psu or and the motherboard. Thanks.
