Why is my replacement screen unresponsive?

So I got a replacement screen and after installing it I ran the itunes restore and update since the phone was in a disabled state. This would be a clean install with iOS 11.1, not from backup. Anyway, the screen functions except when it first boots up. Once it boots up to the home screen (no passcode or touchid) you can't swipe or press icons. The only way it will work is if you press the sleep/wake button twice (first time it goes off, next press it comes on).

I've tried adding security to it to see if that made a difference but it doesn't. Another bizarre thing I noticed was that if you reboot the phone using the Sleep/Wake + Volume down and release both buttons when you see the Apple logo, it boots to the home screen like normal and works just fine. No need to press sleep/wake button twice. It's only if you shut down the phone using the sleep/wake button and then slide to power off and then turn back on do I get this problem.

Don't have any other screens to try or else I would :(

UPDATE** Got another screen from a different company (Corepair from Amazon) that was a full assembly. I've used this companies screens a lot and never had an issue. Anyway, this screen does the exact same thing as the first one I had. I've made a video to show what I am experiencing: https://youtu.be/hkqgrU2_fgI

Just found something that may be of value. If I shutdown the phone normally, when I turn it on it boots to the Home Screen and the touch screen is unresponsive (until it goes to sleep or if I press the sleep/wake button twice). If I hard reboot the phone holding down the Sleep/Wake + Volume Down buttons, the phone boots to the lock screen and is responsive...

Hey everyone. I created a video to show you the issue. Since the last time I commented, I received a different screen from another company and it does the same thing. Just stuck at this point.

Replacements are rarely close in performance to the original. I have this problem with a first generation IPad Mini (one section of the replacement screen is completely unresponsive). I recommend inspecting the connection between the screen and the phone (if possible). Try checking if the connection is lose or damaged. That in turn, would provide reasoning to why the phone is having difficulties detecting the replacement.

That's what's so odd about this....the screen acts fine if you do a hard reset. When I do a hard reset, it boots to the lock screen and the screen functions normal. If I do a normal shutdown and boot, it boots to the home screen with the app icons and the screen doesn't recognize touch unless I press the sleep/wake button to turn the screen off then on. Then it functions normal.

That does impose an interesting question. I suggest turning on assistive touch as a safety net incase anything funky happens to the home sensor. Again it may be a compatibility issue. Whenever I attempt to use a non-genuine "Apple" adapter (I have a Midi keyboard I use with GarageBand) I can usually use it the first time I connect it. After the use I have to fondle the connections and even restart the device in order to get it to work again.

Sadly, I have never found a solution other than buying the (usually) more expensive "Genuine Apple Product".

In the case with the screen I recommend looking at this Ifixit question.

Touch issues after 7 plus screen install replacement

Try turning off 3D-Touch (as stated in the above link) and check to see if there are any improvements (or worsening) to the performance.

I sat online with Apple support last night for ours and we tried everything with no better outcome. Another thing I noticed was that when we did a restore, the phone booted up to the "Hello" screen and then pressing the home button took you to language select screen. The screen was responsive this whole time. Now, as a test, on the "Hello" screen I shut the phone down and rebooted. This time it skipped the "Hello" screen and went straight to the language selection and the screen was unresponsive until I pressed the sleep/wake twice and then it was back at the "Hello" screen. It appears, some how some way, the phone on a normal shutdown is skipping ahead and then not working. It skips the Lock screen and it skips the "Hello" screen. Again, if you do a Volume Down + Sleep/Wake button combo to hard reset the phone, it boots to the correct screen and works normal...

I'm still working on it this morning and have gotten a little further. This Home button does have some damage to it. I've removed the Home button from the phone and booted it up. It took a loooong time to boot but once it finished, it notified me of the TouchID button missing and not going to work, but the screen was responsive. This happened after a normal shutdown. Now the question is...is the Home button damaged enough to cause this, or is it the connection to the cable under the screen shield meaning it's the screen altogether...................man I hate troubleshooting!

Spoke too soon.......did an update and restore without the home button installed. After booting to Hello screen I shutdown and turned back on...booted straight to the language selection screen and was unresponsive. So, must not be the home button.

Have you checked to make sure you have not loosened any other connections?

You could try trying out a new home button but ultimately it could be a faulty screen or worse... a faulty chip within the phone.

Have you tried looking into changing the settings?

Could it be that the Taptic Engine is loosening connections?

If anything try lowering the response of the Taptic Engine as you continue troubleshooting.

You will need programming pairing which only Apple does, and because you replaced the screen yourself they may not do it because it is Apple

Please give some validation of this programming pairing. Could you give us a link?
