I just recently purchased an airport card for my Ibook G3. I put in the card and the computer makes the noise like it is going to start up and then does nothing, the screen remains black. I thought it might be the airport card, but I put the card in an older G3 Ibook and it worked just fine. What is wrong with the computer, do I need to replace the card reader of this Ibook?

Could be a damaged bus or slot on the wireless portion of the logic board. If you have a known good slot you could try replacing it.. other wise you could try to find/use a USB wireless adaptor.

Part number for the replacement slot (sold by ifixit) is
