There is a guide for one of the computers but not the other. The drive swap may be easier but my concerns lie with windows. Will this be a fresh install?

Basically, do you want to move the data on to the new one?

If the size and connector type is compatible with the PC you want to put the harddrive into, you should be fine putting a harddrive in the receiver pc, though when it contains an installation of windows you need to reinstall windows. As the OS is bound to the motherboard of the laptop it was installed on.

For example: Your laptop has SATA connector and 2.5" drive

Good: 500GB HDD SATA 2.5" 7200RPM

Bad: 500GB HDD SATA 3.5" 7200RPM

Good: Clean harddrive + fresh installation of windows

Bad: Harddrive with windows already on it, will cause BSoD (Blue screen of death)

If the motherboard hard drive controllers are the same... which is possible it will work without any problems.

Every motherboard has it's own "Key", when windows gets installed on a harddrive, the OS will be "linked" to the "Key" on the motherboard.

I once tried to swap a harddrive containing windows on 2 pc's, same type, it caused a BSoD and forced me to reinstall windows so I wouldn't recommend it.

Well, sometimes it does. I have had successful transplants with no issues. I would try it, but if it doesnt work, your at no lost, but if it does, you just saved yourself lots of time.

I swapped two hard drives today. Zero problems. Yes they were both Dell 330 machines, but they worked perfectly after the swap. Don't tell me it can't be done. I did it today. I've done it in the past and will continue to do it in the future.

Your BSoD was probably caused by different revisions of the bios and or drivers.

Here's a video disassembly of the A205

Toshiba A205 Hard Drive Replacement

My advice is to just copy the contents of the other drive to the new one, grab an external SATA reader and navigate to your user folders in the drive and just extract the data you need. If you want to do a swap you can but I recommend running DriverPack after that to ensure you have the proper drivers to ensure you a stable system. Guides are often found with ease online, just write you computer manufacturer, the model number then hard drive replacement and you should get a plethora of options.
