Why does my Ninja brew more water than specified?

What country are you in and what country was the machine bought in? Here is the breakdown of volume between the two countries: The British Imperial fluid ounce is equal to 28.413 milliliters, while the US Customary fluid ounce is 29.573 ml. The British Imperial pint is 568.261 ml (20 fluid ounces), while the US Customary pint is 473.176 ml (16 fl oz).

I'm in Canada. The volumes were correct when the machine was new, and stayed that way for about a year, then gradually started increasing where the cups would overflow. Nothing to do with imperial measurments, I use metric anyway.

I had the same problem, the machine brewed 4oz more than specified. So I ended up removing the resivoir, flipping the machine over in the sink and pressing the plunger in the center of the machine and it drained all of the residual water from the system. I plugged it back in, filled the resivoir, and turned the machine back on. Now it works correctly again. I also have model cf087 if that matters.

I just want to give you feedback that what you did also worked for me. My machine is 2 years old so they did not offer me a new machine. It would have been $140.00 plus $20.00 shipping. I want to thank you because it now works perfectly.

This is amazing advice. I have Ninja Model# CF090 32CF4 purchased in 2018. Over the last year the output volume increased and I compensated by using smaller cup settings to get the coffee to pour. This was an erratic method and I was reaching the point to replace the unit. Cleaning cycles did not improve anything. Then I did this "empty the resevoir" trick. The coffee maker now works perfectly with accurate volume measurements. Can't believe how easy this was! Thank you thank you.

Worked like a charm! Brews perfectly again. Water in the reservoir makes so much sense. I'm ashamed I didn't think of it.

Same problem here. Just bought today and searching for an answer. Have you called customer service ? Mine brews 4oz over on every setting.

Called customer service. They asked me on the phone to brew and mesure. It was too much . They will send you a new one, but it will cost 25-30 to ship one back to you. That is disappointing when I already paid a good amount for it!

Ok here is my theory. This is a known defect and the date codes for these models are in the Nov/Dec time frame. I bought returned to bed bath and got another all around the same date codes. Both have the same problem. ( 4oz above what they should be). Could it be they are try to move these through a discounted price at B&B. They are lower than any other supplier

I am going to push hard on management to get resolved

I wonder if you can help me. I am on my third machine. I purchased all of them through Amazon. I told the last rep, I spoke to that I thought that the first two came from the same lot. I have the information the lot number on this third machine. Can you tell me how to figure out when it was made? If it is coming up to the same dates as yours I am just going to return it. I do believe, like you, that are trying to move these through a discount supplier. When I ordered the second one, it was fufilled by another company not Amazon or Ninja. They have been very helpful taking them back, but it's either 'the third time is the charm or it's out of here".

I have the same "overdispensing" issue, in addition to the cleaning light being on all the time to spite the multiple cleanings. They replaced once, but now want $20 shipping to do that. From what I can see on line, there have been lots and lots of failures with this product. They know that most people won't pay the $20 shipping. I think a class action suit is called for, so we can all get our $100 or so back.

Mine was UNDERDISPENSING every time so i decided to clean it. It kept beeping it wad finished seconds after starting. Finally after i beat it some it is going. But the carafe is 2/3 full and the reservoir is 2/3 full. My math says that is going to overfill 1/3. Emptied carafe before starting and can only fill to max line so where did the xtra water come from???

I just set up model CF091 system and used a Pyrex 16 oz. measuring cup to verify how much liquid is dispensed per selection. I found the Specialty (4 oz.) And the CAFE FORTE (8 oz.) both dispensed 2 oz. more than they should. I get 6 oz. and 10 oz. respectively, for each type.

I think the only way to correct this issue is to pour in only the amount of water needed for each selection and not fill the reservoir up to the MAX.

My guess is that the firmware in the original batch of these systems is buggy and that rather than face a massive recall or class action suit, the manufacturer is willing to replace at your expense.

I am keeping my unit and will use a little more coffee per cup to compensate the additional water. I will also report this issue on every website that has a review for this system.

After several occurrences of continuous beeping which required turning the device over and removing the bottom cover (stripping the micro small screws in the process) I decided it had exhausted my patience. My Ninja became my "Nunja" and I tossed it in the dumpster. Kept the measuring cup and bought a foamer on Amazon and a regular coffeemaker at BB&B and haven't looked back since. RIP Ninja, Nov 20, 2018 - Aug 5, 2019.

Interesting to see that this fault still exist. I bought one from Amazon and got it yesterday. It gives way to much water.

Mug 400ml. Should be 250ml

Travel mug 700ml should be 379ml

Half carafe 1100ml. Should be 577ml.

So for full carafe i did not try as i assume it will overflow.

This is for sure a known problem for Ninja. If they claim they want shipping money for a new product that seems so wrong. They should of taken all of this machines off the market and take the hit for hit. I dont feel happy to be a “free" final tester for Ninja and dont get paid for it ;-)

What do you guys have for numbers under THE machine after modell namn? Should be in silver

looks like you have it set to Rich brew according to the manual which will give you slightly more. (page 12 or 13 of the manual)

Actually you may have over-filled the reservoir. The cup or travel mug may not have been empty prior to brewing.

"The water exceeded the Max Fill line on the water reservoir prior to brewing.

The Ninja Coffee Bar® is designed to dispense the following amounts on Classic brew:

Cup 9.5 oz.

XL Cup 11.5 oz.

Travel Mug 14 oz.

XL Multi-Serve 18 oz.

Please ensure that you are using at least a 12 oz. cup for the cup size, 14 oz. cup for the

XL Cup size, 16 oz. travel mug for the travel mug size and 20 oz. travel mug for the XL

Multi-Serve size.

NOTE: On Rich Brew and Over Ice Brew there will be less volume dispensed. Specialty

Brew will deliver approximately 4 oz. and Cafe Forte will deliver approximately 8 oz." PG 18 or 19

For a new user your advice is valid. However, this has been an ongoing problem...for over six months. Meaning, I've used this equipment many, many times and follow the instructions very carefully.

"Cup not empty" : It is an empty container. I add cream afterwards.

"Dispenser too full" : The water is below the Max Fill indicator. I've also brewed with a half full dispenser and the over-brew size is the same.

"Ensure the correct cup size" : I am using a two and four cup Pyrex to measure the actual brew size that I posted.

"Rich Brew is less volume" : Agreed. That is only the way I am able to fill my travel mug...by selecting XL (one size smaller) and Rich Brew. These settings should provide a 10.3oz brew....but in fact results in closer to 14oz....which fills up my travel mug with a little room for cream.

My cleaning light is also always on. It turned on about 3 months after purchase and I've never gotten it to turn off agaian. The cafe forte brews closer to 16 oz. I've had the machine for almost 2 years and always the same. I'm finding it to be more annoying as time passes.

I’m having this issue too. I ran out of water once during a brew cycle, and I suspect there’s an air bubble trapped somewhere in the system, causing it to use more water than it should. I’m not sure how to get that out though. I tried brewing a full carafe and it was on the nose correct. 1 regular cup of classic still yields anywhere from 9 7/8 oz to 11oz (using a kitchen scale to measure).

As far as the issue of too much water coming out, I have experienced not enough water when making a full or half carafe. Filling it to fill line and there is always a small amount of water at the bottom of the reservoir. If that was the only problem, life would be grand. But I also have too much water(coffee) dispensing in a cup also.

Definitely no room for milk or cream. I have to choose the small tumbler size and use my large one that is about 20 oz.or so. My model is the 090 model from about 3 years ago. These are not cheap machines. About 150 to 200.00. We shouldn't be dealing with all these issues.

My newest issue is it stops brewing after about one oz of coffee is brewed and beeps that lovely 5 beep warning that something is wrong. Yes I'd say something is very wrong. I have to keep hitting the brew button until all the coffee is brewed. Which takes about 20 minutes. Every two seconds are so brewing stops, beeping starts....Very frustrating indeed!
