New 2GB memory module doesn't work in slot/bank 1

New 2GB memory module doesn't work in slot/bank 1

Hello,

Bought a 4GB kit from Crucial (CT25664AC800) to replace my current 2x1GB modules. After installing it, my computer doesn't boot up and starts to beep right after I turn it on. It makes three consecutive quick beeps.

After some trial, I isolated the problem to be in memory slot/bank 1. The only memory that works in that slot are the original 1GB modules. All combinations of configurations work except configurations that include a new 2GB module in slot 1.

I'm sure that I'm properly inserting the module in the slot. Original modules work on first try and I already cleaned the slot with a contact cleaner and a tooth brush.

Please advise, I don't know what to do right now, Crucial says that if both modules work in slot 0, then the problem is in the slot or that I'm not seating it properly.

Three beeps normally indicate bad RAM. Place the 2 GB chips in the working slot one at a time and boot. Go to system profiler "about this mac", more info Memory and see what it says. The RAM should be 800 MHz PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM.

All modules are 800 MHz PC2-6400 DDR and all of them work properly in slot 0.

I just can't use the new 2GB modules in slot 1.

I ran apple diags on the memory modules with extended testing and all of them passed without problems. Of course I had to test the 2GB modules in slot 0.

The tag under the base says EMC 2134 Model No. A1225. This machine was bought on launch day in Europe. Maybe they didn't update the tag.

I've seen slots that will work on lower RAM sticks and not the higher ones. There's really nothing you can do now that the warranty has expired (unless you took out AppleCare). You may have to live with three GBs of RAM. *Apple officially supports 4 GB of RAM, but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module. So you may be able to put a 4 GB stick in the working slot to get it to 5 GB.

Same issue here. Had to stick with 3gb for a while. Just bought a 4gb module and hoped this one would work instead of the remaining 1gb and get to 6. Unfortunately the same issue happened and I had to replace the 2gb module. 5gb is not too bad though.
