Why doesn't my phone read the sim card

If this is a new problem then it could be one of two things . Your sim card has been damaged some how or part of the phones main board has failed.

If this is a new phone then it is most likely to be that the phone is locked to a different provider than your sim card, The store you bought the phone from should be able to help although they may charge you for this.
