MacBook Not Recognising Battery - Help!

Recently managed to damage my laptop logic board and just got it back from the repair shop and it now works and accepts charge, but only works when plugged in. The laptop doesn't recognise the battery, I tried a new one, which the people at the shop said would fix it, but no luck. Tried resetting SMC and PRAM.

Is it likely to be an issue with the logic board's interaction with the battery?

Thanks

Update (03/07/2018)

Hey, I have coconutbattery and it doesn't recognise any battery. See results here

Conor Hardacre you SMC would be the last thing to try on my list. Let them check the sense resistors first.

To get a much better idea of the condition of the battery, if it is charging, if even seen, download and run Coconut battery and post your results.

Hey, that's not good at all. First check your connect from the battery to the logic board. Then tell us just what type of damage you did to your logic board.

из

How can I check that connection?

The damage happened when I used a faulty charger and the laptop stopped receiving charge.

из

Sound like you damaged the charging components. Just what did the shop do and what did they tell you about using it? Outside of replacing the mag-safe board there's not much you can do to get the logic board running correctly except sending it in to a board level specialist like @tcrs_circuit.

из

They replaced the charging port and did 'board works' that were unspecified.

The computer now works and accepts charge (light on charger is green) but is entirely dependent on the charger. Shuts down immediately if unplugged

It appears the SMC chip is blown. I think you'll need to bring it back. If they can't fix it get your money back so you can get it fixed properly.

Conor, This could be a number of things, Could be a dead ISL, could be blown current sense resistors, or as a last resort, could be a dead SMC. DO NOT let that shop touch the smc without properly diagnosing the rest of the charging circuit.

Thanks for the info man. I got a refund from the store and have my macbook back but its still in the same situation. Turns on when plugged in with a 3rd party charger (magsafe won't charge it) and it dies immediately if unplugged. What do you think I should do? I worry that it's beyond repair. Apple no longer do repairs or support 2011 MBP models, but do you think they could help me diagnose it?

из

I'd have to agree with TCRS here, Check the ISL and Current sense resistors before going anywhere near the smc. Too many shops botch that repair and make it harder for someone with experience to do it properly.
