While I can't say with certainty I think Apple uses a soldered CPU on this logic board.

In any case, this logic board is based on the older design which uses an older PCH. So between the two its not likely you can swap out the CPU or add more RAM beyond 16 GB.

The CPU is indeed soldered to the board. The RAM is replaceable, but we haven't tested whether it can use more than 16 GB.

The Kaby Lake 2.3 GHz Core i5 (I5-7360U) CPU used does claim it can support 32 GB but I think Apple is still using the older PCH used with the Broadwell 1.6 GHz Core i5 (I5-5250U) CPU which can only support 16 GB.

I know this is old but just for anyone who is wondering, the iMac can do 32GB of RAM no problem.
