MacBook Pro Mid 2012 15'

I wanted to take on a project with buying a MacBook Pro 15' Unibody Mid 2012. I wanted to make it the best possible of this model. What do you guys think?

I was thinking:

  • i7 (?)
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Dual Hard Drives (Both SSD's)

What do you guys think about that? Will this setup be any good, or should I just buy a new one that has the Touch Bar?

This is probably my favorite MacBook Pro of all time.

Go with a 1 TB SSHD or a straight SSD to really give it a kick.

I try to keep one of these in stock for sale at all times.

What do you think about a dual drive setup?

Why dual SSD's? I think a single one thats larger will give you more performance. I have the next one up a i7 2.7 GHz and I have a single 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. I promise you the SSD is not the limit here on this puppy!

I just picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago. I was fortunate to find an i7 2.7 ghz model (highest config). $350 on Craigslist. I DO have to replace the screen, unfortunately. It has the hi-res screen, and a couple of days after the purchase had a small line of pixels going down the screen. I mainly use it with an external monitor, but the screen replacement is cheap enough (buy a 2011 screen off of eBay, and modify the connector to make it fit the 2012). So far I am VERY happy with this computer. Upgraded the RAM to 16GB (fortunately, I already had this, pulled from another computer), put in a 250GB 860 EVO as my boot drive, and put a 1TB HDD in the optical bay. Geekbench scores for this $350 computer are ridiculous. My particular machine is scoring 13,400 multi-core. The ONLY thing I really miss is the retina screen from my 2013 13” retina. But, the matte “hi-res” screen on this computer is definitely not bad. Some people consider this model to be the best MacBook Pro of all time, as it is the last fully upgradeable model.
