iangardiner  without seeing what you are seing and going by your description alone, it sounds like the caps (as in real caps that cover the LED’s not caps as in capacitors) are falling of your backlight LED’s. Post some pictures of what your display is showing to verify that. Use this guide Adding images to an existing question for that. Also verify your TV’s exact model number.

If so then you will have to totally disassemble your TV/Panel to get to the backlight array. The caps can most often be glued back in place. Not a terribly complicate job just very tedious.

iangardiner to repair this would most likely cost you nothing but your time and possibly some glue. For someone else to do it could be expensive since it is tedious and will take time.

из

I still say that this is unusual. Iangardiner, where are you located? This is a job that should cost less than $200 including any parts required.

из

I am in Manchester, in the UK

из

I have re-glued the lens covers over the LED's to fix that problem. it not complicated just make sure they are oriented the same as the others. It is a common problem, there are many videos on the web that show the process.

A have two white dots on mine how much will it cost to get it fixed

All answers are correct, but let try to clearify. There are rows of LED (light emitting diode) lights that emit the light for the screen, and on top of those are glued the reflectors, which broadcasts the light created by the LEDs. There is a white defuser panel that covers the reflectors, which evenly defuses, the light created by the LEDs. The LCD (liquid crystal display) sets on top of the white duffuser panel where the light passes through the LCD creating the picture for the screen. When the reflectors fall off the LED lights, the bright light from the LEDs appear as a white rings or spots on the screen. You have two options if the screen is not under warranty, pay to have it repaired, or do it youself. There are videos on the internet that show you how to do the repair, but keep in mind if doing it yourself, it can be a very tedious, and delicate process, especially with larger screens. It is not always as easy as it appears in the videos; one little mistake, and your out of a tv!

I replaced the LED’s in a friends TV and after he got it, it had the white circles. None of the lens had come off, but I did notice there the lens had glue from the tape on them, once I cleaned them all off with IPA the white circles went away.

Can you post a picture of these "rings" please?

As far as I know there are no caps behind the panel. There should be LED strips that provide the back light. These LEDs can fail, but when that happens, usually the entire strip or sometimes the entire back light will fail. Depending on how the strips are powered, the LEDs on the strip are connected in series which means that if one fails, the entire strip will be effected. Some sets power each strip while others have all strips in series. From your description, it sounds like one LED (or 5 if there are 5 "rings") is brighter than the rest. This may indicate an LED that is starting to fail.

A picture will help. In any case, either replacing the strip or the individual LED may resolve the problem.

I will try to get a picture, I don`t have a camera. or use a mobile. The first rings started at the left hand side of the screen the second just below it.the third is top centre of the screen, no4 is just to the right of no2, a couple more are forming just below the group of 3. If it is the led`s failing, is it something I could try and fix myself and what would it cost? how much would an engineer charge or should I just buy a new tv

из

Unfortunately, trying to diagnose this remotely is tricky at best. See if you can get a picture of the problem. That will be the most helpful in trying to resolve this.

caps as in caps to cover the LED not caps as in slang for capacitors 8-). The caps on top of the LED's on the backlight strips fall off and create white round spots ......

из

That makes more sense and yes that would cause what appear to be rings on the screen. Thanks for the clarification. I have to admit having repaired 100s of sets, I have never seen an LED lens (cap) fall off before.

You are the expert on this not me. I am just an old dude who fixes stuff for free as a hobby and community service. I do believe in the mission of iFixit and ewaste and try to keep things working. Just finished 2 (LG and Samsung) within the last month with exactly those issues.

The led light reflector at the back of the led panel has dropped off. Need to call tech to disassemble the panel and to fix it back which normally by using glue

What kind of glue should be used

из

I used Apoxy on mine. Everything I read says do not use super glue as it is not heat resistant

You have to remove the back plate and lift the screen. There’s a white backer that covers the led array. On each led there is a diffuser cap. Sounds like the glue on yours failed on one or multiple caps. While in there wiggle any of the other caps so that if the glue failed on any of them you can address it all at once. Get some glue like either gorilla glue or super clue and glue the diffuser caps back down over the diodes. This is a known issue with Samsung tvs. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv5s0KttNX...

this link shows how it’s done.

Why not a class action suit because it is wide spread and a “common issue”.

The lens coming lose or off because of the heat of the leds and how old the tv is after 2 or 3 years you have to replace all leds strips.

Happened to me it is a manufacturer fault the lenses behind the screen are stuck on with inferior glue but Samsung don’t want to know they should be held to account they can be reglued with proper glue if you ring around tv repair shops they will quote you a price it happened to me 18 months ago and I did get a quote for £100 but I can’t remember who with
