My PlayStation 3 is not displaying and goes off on its own

When I plug the power my PlayStation 3 shows the fed light then when I press the power button it does not display and after a few seconds it goes off completely and the red light does not display. When I press the power button again it shows I have tried the hard reset method and I don't get the double beep what could possibly be the problem.
