MacBook Air crashing when the battery is plugged in.

So recently I wanted to get some “professional” writing done so I took put my MacBook Air. I pressed the power button but nothing happened so I assumed that it just had to be charged. I plugged the MagSafe connector in and then It flashes Green to Orange to Green and then stays on green.

At the time I did not notice that so I just continued to boot up. When I reached the desktop I saw a text “Not charging” on the menu bar. After that the system just crashed.

I've been researching similar topics and tried everything. SMC reset, PRAM reset, SMC reset without the battery plugged in and nothing worked. I reinstalled MacOS but still nothing.

The battery was replaced about 5-4 months ago and was showing no problems before. The laptop has no damage (except for a few scratches), no liquid was ever spilled on the device. I doubt that this is the reason but I kept it for about a month in its bag but the place I kept it in was room temperature so nothing could overheat inside it.

The laptop works well only without the battery plugged in. I also tried booting in safe mode but nothing.

One time when I was able to get it on the desktop I immediately checked the battery stats. It was showing 0 on almost everything. I remember that the battery has only about 4 cycles. If that helps the system crashes 4 seconds into loading so I can't see anything anymore.

I also left the laptop to “charge” for the night but also nothing. I hope I can get some help from you dear readers because I can't take it anymore.

I spend almost 3 days on this laptop and I'm starting to give up.

UPDATE!: I was plugging the charger in and out until the orange light stayed on all the time. I was able to boot with the battery plugged in. I still haven’t figured out how to get the battery to charge but it’s a start, right? I’ll keep y’all updated!

UPDATE!: So the laptop now works with the battery plugged in without the charger plugging and unplugging but it still doesn’t charge it. The icon on the menu bar shows "X" and when I click on it shows this: "No batteries available. Power source: battery." Strange, right? For curiosity's sake I opened up the laptop and took out the motherboard (the fecker was hard to open but I did it) to examine the circuits and chips. No damage and corrosion at all. The only thing left now is charger and battery replacement.

To be clear you have no problems running the system with the battery disconnected (using the MagSafe adapter alone) Its only when you plug in the battery.

If thats the case who's battery did you get as it sounds like you got a bad one. I would return it and get a replacement.

I'm going to be returning my bad battery in a few days. We'll see what happens next. I'll keep everyone updated.

Do you still have the original battery? It could be that the replacement was just poor quality and happened to fail after not being used for a while. If you have the original battery you could try putting that back in to see if the issue is resolved, or try getting a battery with a lot of positive reviews.

Sadly I don't but I wouldn't help because it was damaged and refused to work.
