Fan broken? Rattle noise close to the power button

My fans work like a charm, but if resource intensive programs are running like Adobe CS5 a strange rattle noise appears. I performed a check with Apple Service Diagnostic program an got following error message:

Temp Sensor- GPU 0 Die Temp Test 1- Sensor reads within operating range

Error- Sensor is reading above the high limit.

The check on fans was successful and no error was reported, so i don`t know where the problem is. Please help me.

We need to know which MBP '07 you have. Please list the last three figures of your serial number.

I have to add that approximately a half year ago, my MBP had a total Crash: Logic Board, Fans and Superdrive were changed. Two weeks later the Superdrive was again replaced.

Yes, exchanges were done during warranty time by a certified Apple store/technician. I called them yesterday and they will charge me a fee of 100 Dollar only to see where the problem is.

Who ever replaced the logic board may have forgotten to replace the thermal paste. Were the repairs made by a professional? The rattling noise sounds like a fan may be going out.

I agree with mayer on the thermal paste needing redone, since there is no checking it. Try that and let us know of any changes.

Hi there, just like Mayer had said. The thermal paste may not have been properly applied to the necessary components on that logic board so the only way to check on that is to have that board completely removed again, then you can tell if the paste was even applied at all (if not to little was applied). Now as far as the "rattling" noise is concern on the same side of the power button. That fan is either going bad OR the top cover of the fan has been pushed down on (which it very easily to do)and is making thse plastic blades rub the top casing, there are NO other moving parts that can cause "rattling" except for the hard drive itself) If that winds up being the source of your noise you can just pull it up slightly with the fan running and that noise will STOP. But be ADVISE, that unit must be turned on while you hold the top cover pad up far enough for you to even do that (all ribbon connections must be intact). Above all, you must be VERY careful not to allow anything else to TOUCH that board while you are doing this!
