Will not Boot, screen is black, no chime.

Out of nowhere, my MBP will not start. Here is what is happening.

1. I press the power button WITH the battery in. As long as I hold it down for a second or two, the front light is present as normal, then dims in about 1 second, then goes black in another second or two. While this is happening, I can hear the fan start, then it stops in 1-2 seconds. Also,I can hear what sounds like the drive start, then shutdown in 1-2 seconds. It almost sounds and responds identical to holding down the power button when forcing a shutdown. The screen stays black the entire time. No chime.

*Note: If I KEEP the power button pressed down, the light is present as normal, then dims in 1-2 seconds, and then starts flickering for 2-4 seconds, then goes black. The drive starts, the fan starts, but 4-5 seconds everything stops like it was a forced shutdown...screen is black, no chime.

2.When I take the battery out, but keep the wall plug in, nothing...at all. No lights, no noises of any sort. Nothing.

ANy thoughts?? Logic board?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: By the way, I have the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics. Could this be the issue?

Edit 2: Magsafe light work fine. Also magsafe IS charging the battery, so that aspect is working fine.

This is not a common symptom for the Nvidia issue, that's usually scrambled colors. We need to get it started to check that out. Are you getting color on your magsafe? My first thought here is a power problem because of the lack of anything without the battery. This machine should start without it. See if you can borrow one. First, take a look at the tip and use something like a toothpick to push the pins to see if they are fully extending. Next use a multimeter to test the output. Here's the wiki which shows the pinout on the right, let us know your results: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MagSafe

Yes, I am getting color on my magsafe. Green when the battery is fully charged, and amber when the battery is not fully charged.

I pushed the pins in with a small tool and they all go in and out with no problems or resistance.

I will do the multimeter test right now.

If the magsafe is OK and the MBP gets no power without the battery, it's time to replace the Left I/O Board. We need to know your exact machine to get you to the correct part and guide. Please give the last three letters of your serial number (found in the battery compartment).

X92 are the last 3 digits of the serial number

The 3 LETTERS are HYX

"If your left I/O board is bad, you will not be able to start your computer when it's plugged into the wall. It may or may not run on battery and the light on the power adapter will not light up at all" ifixit

My power adaptor DOES light up, though.

Take it to an apple store. There was a recall on these that ended last December I think. But beg them and they may help you.
