Why are the pictures showing up as black and white?

Well the wires are hooked up properly with the wires in the correct slot yet the Gamecube is coming up as black and white. Why is this happening?

Hi,

How are you connecting to the TV, A/V, S-Video, Component video?

if your TV supports it can you try a different input connection type and see if that works OK, i.e. if using component video connection try A/V connection?

Can you connect it to a different TV and see if it works OK?

Just trying to prove where the problem lies the TV or the console or perhaps the cable if using component video connection

Ah yes. I tried the wires out on my sisters Television and the colours worked perfectly fine, there was colour and everything. It seems that my television just doesnt want to work. Could getting a new wire for it work?

Hi,

What type of connection input type were you using on your TV?

What is the make and model number of your TV?

из

Its an LG television and the model number is (I believe) 32LJ500B-UB and I was using the basic RCA which is Yellow, Red, White. I was putting the yellow in the green plug in slot and the Red and White in their inputs. But the Television was working perfectly fine with the cords until today.

Hi,

Given that you used the same cable to connect the console to your sister's TV and it worked OK and that you connected the console cable's yellow AV connector into the TV's green AV input (also shown as Video/Y on your TV), it proves that the problem is with your TV's AV input.

To verify this can you connect a different device e.g. a DVD player or anything that has an AV output (yellow/red/white) to the TV and check if it still shows a "mono" screen.?

Just to add to what jayeff said.

First and foremost, try to be as specific as possible so that we can help you with better information.

What cables are you using? What kind of display/TV are you connecting to?

Gamecubes have two different video outputs : RCA (Analog - Yellow, Red, White) & Component (Digital - Green, Blue, Red)

RCA is the most common connector (component cables were not manufactured in as high numbers and thus, aren’t common)

RCA uses a single cable video signal (the yellow one) and two audio inputs for left/right (white, red)

Component cables use a THREE cable video signal (green, blue, red) so all three cables have to plugged in to give correct signal.

TVs with component connections only do not work with RCA connections (to be fair, in the past, a few would allow the green connector on the TV to also be used as yellow for RCA, but that is rare) and vice versa.

If you are using an display with only HDMI ports, I recommend an adapter such as this one on amazon and if video issues continue, here is a link for the gamecube RCA cable on amazon.

EDIT: Didn’t see your response in time. I will leave this here for anyone else that comes across this.
