Why is my Volvo S40 2006 making a loud clanking noise?
Every once in a while it will make a loud clanking noise then it goes away. It does feel like it wants to stop when I'm driving. It only started doing that recently before it was not as loud.

Can you determine where the noise is coming from in the car?
Have you checked under the car (or in the boot even) for anything loose?
Does it also happen when the car is stopped and the engine is just idling?

No I haven't checked anything yet but I'm taking it to a mechanic in about 4 days. I just don't know if I can still drive it and it wont stop on me. Yes the noise sometimes happens when I start the car and sometimes while driving it.
