No Built-In Display, but external video works

My Late-2012 13” Macbook Pro has no Built-in display, but an external monitor works. As far as I can see, everything else works fine. Trackpad, Keyboard, etc.

I thought it might be the I/O board. I replaced that, but still no joy.

I am currently running High Sierra, and am installing Mojave as I write this.

I’ve tried SMC reset, zapping PRAM.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of info online on how to troubleshoot further.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

It sounds like you have an inverter problem.

I’ve had this popup with several older Mac Powerbooks. It’s cheap to replace the inverter but a pain to fix.

The inverter is inside the display itself, so you need to take much of your Mac apart to get to it. Make sure you get the correct inverter for your model. Apple tends to change parts with each new iteration of its computers, so the inverter is specific to the Mac.

Once the inverter is installed, however, your screen should work well again.

OK, sorry to bother you.

@astintyme - No inverter in this series, the old PowerBooks used CCFL backlights, this series uses LED.
