Has anyone experienced iPod touch devices with rapid battery drain?

I often replace the batteries on iPod touch 5th and 6th gen devices. Often times I come across an iPod touch that exhibits rapid battery drain. Even if the battery is replaced with a new one, the iPod will drain the battery within a matter of hours. FYI, the iPod touch 5th gens battery can be replaced with a 6th gen battery as shown here… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ9R2oQR... I’m positive the issue is not software related, as I’ve seen this issue in iPod’s that have been factory reset and not even set up.

After a bit of research on Google, I’ve read that there are no schematic diagrams for any iPod touch, which would make sense as to why there are no board level repair services I know of for these devices.

Has anyone figured out what causes this issue and if it’s even repairable?

There’s a good chance that rapid battery drain on the Touch is the same thing as on an iPhone, namely, Tristar. The Touch 5 does have a schematic available on ZXW but no board views so you are left interpreting the board to determine what is what. It’s easy for identifiable IC’s like Tristar but it’s hard to know which passive s do what.

There’s also the issue that most Touch customers don’t want to spend a lot of money on repairs so it makes micro-soldering work pretty rare.

I’ve worked on a few in the past but with a no fix / no fee business model, it doesn’t make sense to spend a lot of time on them unless data is critical.

I'm familiar with the Tristar being the culprit for iPhones and figured it was the same for iPods, but wasn't sure if iPod's even had a Tristar chip yet alone replacement chips for it.

I usually tell customers that it would be more cost effective for them to find a used one online.

iPadRehab has a Tristar tester, but I am unsure if it works for iPod's. Even if it did, the repair would still be costly, but would be good to know if that's the issue with these devices. Thanks.
