I accidentally partitioned the source HDD: . Can I recover it?

I was hoping to copy the content of a 500Gb HDD onto a 500Gb SSD drive, using disc utility on a Snow Leopard OX. I intended to format the new SSD to Guide Partition Table, but I got distracted and accidentally partitioned the drive which was supposed to be my source. Is there any way to recover from this mega blunder?

She actually has a time machine backup, but immigration assistant does not seem to recognize it…I told her to boot via recovery drive and choose the time machine backup to recover from. On her time machine drive there are folders for the previous backups and one dmg file. Is the dmg file not the most recent snapshot of her old HDD? And can I not somehow drop this into her new SSD which has a freshly installed OS of the same type, Yosemite?

Sure, just use Disk Utility and set it to one partition when you reformat it

Mayer, maybe I was not clear: I used my own computer running OSX10.6.8 to transfer data from my friends's HDD to her new SSD via SATA to USB connections. I find that it is so easy to copy one drive to another in OSX10.6.8. But when I tried to format the destination SSD with a Guide partition table to make it bootable, I actually re-formated the disc on which the data was stored. So now the data has been erased from the source disc, because I partitioned it, her HDD ,instead of the destination drive, her SSD. Now I need to recover the data which was on her original HDD.

Pray she has an external Time Machine backup or an iCloud account
