Sony XBR 55X850C won't start

After a firmware update and a week later my Sony XBR 55X850C won't start. I’ve attempted to perform a factory reset (unplug TV, hold down both Power & Volume Low buttons on back of unit while plugging in the TV) without any resolution. As a tech rookie is there anyway to determine if this 2016 purchased TV is bricked before I spend $$ at a local repair shop to see if its worth repairing? And of course I didn’t spring for the 5 year extended warranty. A new unit is now @ $800. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I never see any indication of power to the unit (no flashing lights or clicking sounds).

Looks like repair store fun!

Thanks!

Pretty much all modern TVs use switched mode power supplies. The capacitors in them eventually wear out, then the supply won’t “startup”. You mention a firmware update, if it died right after, that’s one thing. If it ran fine for a number of days after, the update probably isn’t cause. On pressing the power button, one flash of the On light points to supply startup failure. This is usually accompanied by a soft audible “tick”. Multiple flashes is a diagnostic code. Count the flashes, look up the service manual and see what it indicates. Supply startup repair is a matter of swapping out specific capacitors, typically any and all 10uF+ right near the transformer. If you know how to work with circuit boards and solder, get new capacitors (match uF, temperature and voltage greater or equal) and have at. Otherwise document what it’s doing and call some repair shops for estimates. I’ve fixed several TV and computer monitors by swapping capacitors, it’s about $10 parts and ~1 hour labor..

My Sony Bravia XBR-55X850C stopped working, I have the tv less than 4 years, , it turning on and off by itself when plugged in to wall outlet. Sometimes I could see marshmallows start running for a couple seconds then all is off again, black screen. I tried to hold power and volume buttons and plug in cord after, waiting for green light. Green light appeared every time, but it did help. I tried this steps for 10 times. What could by wrong? Some says need to replace a power cord... How to replace, it attached to tv and not removable? Thank you!
