The eMac was an all-in-one G4-based Mac designed for the education market and released in April 2002. It was the last Mac to use a CRT display and was sold at a low price to schools and other institutions.

Why wont it reboot?

eMac lost power when a circuit breaker was tripped by the vacuum cleaner.

When power was restored the computer started up with a normal tune and the screen lit up with the apple and goes no further.

Have tried switching on with all the variations of key inputs but it still wont go past the white apple screen.

Update

Your suggestions worked and the only thing to remember is not to rush the computer.

Update

Thank you very much Mayer and all the other fixatologists for helping to get my two eMacs going in the right direction .. they were ready to be booted out! I will not be doing any more fiddling for fear of losing more info until what has happened to all that went into the archive can be looked at when the Archive and Re-instal was done on the first eMac.My main aim now is to suss out the 34gig block on the hard drive and if that can not be done then do a whole clean to get the drive usable as a back-up.In the past before getting a chance to back-up I lost all my iPhoto's and I am wondering if it is all sitting there just hiding behind some partition. My computer was not used for downloading music or had more than 1500 jpegs on that hard drive.

If you can help me further it would be most appreciated and would contribute to improving my cartooning which can be seen on .. toonopia.blogspot.com

Hi Mayer

I managed to get the tray out and put the restore disk 1 in.Pressed C when starting up again and could hear the disk spinning up .. then a signal beep .. the screen came up white with Apple logo and just stays like that!

из

"a signal beep", what are you talking about? Did you get it running?

из

Mayer my eMac is now running like a charm... I had to re-instal OSX to get it like that but am a little befuddled about what happened to all the previous information that used up 34 gig of my hard drive with 4 spare!

The computer is back to 10.3.1 ( was up to 10.3.9 originally! )...and only has 4 gig of hard drive available. Am I able to rescue some of he lost information and if not at least clear the space available on the hard drive? I did preference the archive function when using the restore and first aid disks.

Sounds like you may have done an archive and install on the system. You may be loaded up with music or other downloads. To do a totally clean install with a wiped hard drive, repeat the procedure I listed but reformat the drive using the "write zeros" options and then do a clean install (this will wipe the hard drive clean).

A real "thank you" for helping me!

Start up from your system installation disk by inserting the disk and holding down the "C" key while restarting. Go to the second page pull dow menu to Utilities -> disk utilities > select the drive on the left and repair the drive till it runs clear.
