Headphone jack installation, need help finishing

I need helping finishing the job. The guide is great up to getting the old headphone jack and ribbon out of the phone, but what about transferring the metal backing and other such parts to the new jack cable? The parts looked so small and delicate, I wasn't quite sure how to go about it. Some pictures helping to transfer the parts not included to the new ribbon would be very helpful. Any advice?

Thanks.

sorry cant provide pictures, but patience is the key. Just done this myself for the first time and everything is held together with sticky tape. You need to pull the tape away from the volume and mute and power buttons on your old cable, one at a time. Then reposition on to your new cable ensuring all the notches in the tapes etc line up.

Quite straight forward, but fiddly. I found tweezers very helpful.

Hope this helps

David, thanks. I'm sure you're right. Will tackle this again when time isn't an issue. But sadly, my patience always will be! :)

What about the mute button switch. Is that soldered on?

Okay, so far, 2 out of 3! I got the volume backing plate transferred and the power button. What about the mute button switch? Is that soldered on? I looks to me like it's attached with more than just adhesive to the metal anchor that the screws go into. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Brian, to be honest I cant remember how it was attached, because the metal part your talking about was in 2 bits on mine. I remember having to superglue it together, but i'm sure it was just double sided tape holding the cable/switch to it. If i remember also, make sure the mute button is in the down position before attempting to secure the metal back and switch to the case.

I wish I had bought the complete assembly, which had all the switches etc attached. How about you?

Hi David, thanks for your response. I got it sorted out. After studying the thing in a magnifying glass and losing a little patience I just applied some pressure and the ribbon came right off the metal piece. The adhesive for the mute switch connector on my new ribbon wasn't all that strong so I applied a bit of glue, and from there it was okay. Getting the new ribbon to sit correctly is no picnic, but now my phone is good as new.

I also made the mistake of not flipping the mute switch correctly and I didn't notice until it was all put back together. Ouch! But when all was done, my phone works like new. Got the remote function on the headphones back, which is what I wanted.

Thanks again for the help! And yes, it would be much better and easier if those pieces were already attached to the new ribbon.
