Front camera suddenly blurry after ios 12 loaded

Hi! Front-facing camera worked fine since I got the 6S a year ago new. Since loading ios 12.1.4 last week, the front camera is now blurry. The whole screen is out of focus. It hasn’t ever been used much. Not a big selfie person! Rear camera works as it should.

I’ve cleaned the lens, turned the camera on and off and on and off, rebooted, turned off camera in several apps, used focus and focus lock, stomped and cried. I’ve read all I can find online and tried everything except reset. I’m hoping not to have to reset to defaults as I’ve spent the last year tweaking settings to my liking.

If the front-facing camera became defective or just quit, why all of a sudden after a year?

I live in a kind of remote place so Apple’s nearest store is several hours’ drive away.

Suggestions? Help? Pretty please? TIA

I’ve seen a number of devices that have hardware stop working after upgrading to ios 12. Batteries are most common, but if it happened after the 12 update, I would NOT anticipate that a restore would return functionality. Take it to a reliable repair shop with some integrity and you should be out less than a hundred dollars and the repair is quick, or if you’re comfortable/daring enough. buy the part and follow one of the guides for repair. If you see anything that looks like chalk/toothpaste on any connections, clean VERY well with alcohol and swab. I mention this because the number one reason I replace customers front facing camera is because the earspeaker area got some moisture in through the mesh and doesn’t kill the whole phone, but certainly causes issues.
