Why is my iPod classic stuck in Disk Mode?

My Ipod Classic I’m trying to restore because itunes won’t recognize it and it keeps freezing up my computer or laptop when I connect it. I was able to get it into Disk Mode (with the “Do Not Disconnect” and “Ok to Disconnect”). That’s the only thing it does now even after I reset it, it just stays in that mode and either freezes my computer in the Windows Explorer Folders, and like I said the Itunes doesn’t recognize it even after it’s says that it is recovering my ipod. I’m trying to see if my ipod classic is able to be saved and restored to continue using it or is it corrupted to the point where it’s past gone with no help for it.
