Replaced battery and screen, now it isn't powering on at all.

I work at a tech company and a customer brought in his Moto Z, we quickly determined the battery was the issue as it ran out within minutes, so we replaced it. The issue we encountered from here is we noticed the screen had cracked, so we ordered a replacement for that. When the replacement came in, we quickly repaired it, yet the screen stayed black. We could feel the phone vibrating, so we knew this screen was a defective part. We returned this screen and got a new, much nicer looking one than the one we had been given before (neither of these are from here, just providing details). We put this screen on and plugged everything in correctly, but now the phone does not turn on whatsoever. We feel no vibrations, and once again no image is shown on the screen. Could this be damage to the battery from heating the phone to melt the adhesive when reapplying the screen, or is there any other possible issues? Thank you to anyone who is willing to share thoughts, recommendations, etc.

When you connect the new screen you MUST disconnected the battery or it will fry the screen so that’s what happend.

This is not always true. While it's good and proper practice to disconnect the battery before connecting components to the phone, doing so will not always lead to parts being damaged.

That's true but i don't want anyone to make this mistake.

I replaced the battery and screen. Screen is black. It's a brand new screen and I just put it in. It didn't break. I have the phone plugged in with charger for several minutes. I hold down the power button and still see nothing, but I hear vibrations and I can tell the phone is on, but screen is still totally black. How can I confirm whether it's "fried" or if it's defective, or not plugged in right? It could be anything for all I know.

And how are you supposed to disconnect the battery before you connect the screen? The battery is double-sided tape stuck down because that's what the instructions say to do before even trying to put the screen back on, and the connector is underneath everything. So first, this isn't described anywhere; and second it's impossible. Ridiculous.

At this point, I've done my best and I can't wait for a new screen if that's what the problem is.

Stupid question. Did you charge the battery? It’s possible that when you put the new screen on and found out that it was bad, you just took the part off and forgot to turn off the phone. That would explain why the phone didn’t turn on. If that’s not the case then I’m not sure what happened. Heating the battery should not cause problems however did you disconnect the battery first before heating it up? The only other thing I can think of is that at some point during the repair something on the logic board got shorted out causing the device to not power on.
