How to fix a bad backlight on iPad Mini 1?

Hello,

My iPad mini 1 backlight is completely dead. The screen shows a very dim apple logo that I can only see with a flashlight. I am down to do some micro soldering to fix this, but I need to know what part of the iPad is actually causing the issue…

From what I understand, there are two common parts responsible for backlight failure: the fuse and the diode. I found the location of both these components and used a multimeter to test them. Both tests had successful results; the current passed right through the fuse and the diode worked in only one direction like its supposed to (with a reading of 0.141 on the multimeter). So what could possibly be the issue? Could it be the coil? Or something else I’m not thinking of…

Any help would be awesome!

(If I need to replace a different part, I would appreciate a link to a tutorial video, because the only videos I have seen are for the fuse or the diode.)

Thanks!!

Ok so on a mini 1 you’ve checked L2200 & D8228. can you check you have continuity from L8225 -> D8228 -> L2200 -> pins 30 & 32 on J2201 FPC ?

Next what is the voltage ? is it just VCC_Main or boosted somewhat ? either way after that i feel your looking at U8100 if all else checks out . Oh and if the voltage is right maybe test a known good lcd

Best of luck
