Broken left handed hinge Titanium Onyx

What screwdriver (not set) do I need to loosen the Hinge screws?

  1. Can I epoxy just the broken display to the hinge?
  2. If not I just want to re seat the display part back in the Hinge and live with it

This repair is not easy. The hinges and screen bezel are held on with glue and new hinges do not exist anymore. You may be able to find a used one on ebay. attempting to repair it without a replacement hinge would be useless. Due to the extreme amount of leverage that will be placed on the broken hinge it would just pop right back out. In my opinion the effort vs reward would not pay off considering you can pickup a newer 15" powerbook for a few hundred dollars.

New hinges are available here but the price is quite steep and insofar i have to agree to eTechParts that a.)The repair is quite challanging and b.)It's probably better (for the nerves) to buy a good used machine. On the other hand that might have weak hinges as well. The Bookyard (bookyard.com) used to have a good guide how to do the repair but at the moment the photos don't work so no link here. Another quite useful guide here.

Here's a much better price on that hinge: [связанный продукт отсутствует или отключен: IF121-027]

It may be all you need.

What screwdriver do i need? a hex head will not do it. I am willing to either loosen the left hinge and try to re-set the broken edge or buy one new hinge. My Titanium works well. new is not in the Budget ( unless the Titanium fails (deteriorates)

Someone downvoted this answer today, I'm not sure why. You need a Torx #6 driver. This is a great set for the price and includes the T6: [связанный продукт отсутствует или отключен: IF145-028]

Here's just the T6: T6 Torx Screwdriver

OK I removed the hinge screws and carefully tried to re-set the broken display end back where it was. Can I epoxy the broken Hinge display edge to the display (see my pictures in my earlier message"? Also what, if any, lubricant can be used on the hinge?

You've got to remember that I'm working from a fuzzy picture of the damage. You should be able to epoxy it if it's not bent out of place. Is the hinge tight due to damage? You don't want it to loose or the screen will flop over. Some standard 10 in 1 oil works for me.

I think i will buy a replacement left hinge (just to be safe). Yes the hinge is tight but i do not know its because of damage. I want to be cautious with repairs. How about sewing machine oil? what epoxy do you suggest?

thank you
