Can I replace logic board (Mac mini) from 1.4ghz to better processor?

Purchased Mac mini in working order, however, it went into firmware lock when I tried to hook it up initially at home. Apple was not supportive, because I bought it at a pawn shop, not an authorized Apple retailer. Apparently I can replace the logic board, but some articles I’ve read, indicate that I can only replace it with another of the same caliber. 1.4ghz for 1.4ghz. Since I need to replace, can I upgrade to a better logic board?

@ilikemacs - Yes you can upgrade your systems logic board.

But! you need to stay within the series. So in your case one of these would work Macmini7,1

Hi Dan. Thanks for the tip. I now have to find a solid logic board to do the swap, and get some tools.

Well you can but it may cause power concerns. It may also not have the same firmware thus be incompatible. But if you are willing to role the dice on it. Go ahead if you do not care if it works or not.

Thanks for the answer Bobby. If there may be an issue with incompatibility, I may just have to purchase the same one. Luckily, it is the least expensive one. Perhaps I will try to upgrade to a different process once I have a replacement for this one.

I just want it to work.
