2009? iMac wont turn on/black screen

I have been trying to get an old iMac to work.

The person who owned it didn’t want it anymore because it doesn’t work.

I plugged in the power cord hit the power button and I heard some sort of hard drive clatter or fan noise but no chime.

I can see LEDs on through the mesh at the bottom. I tried all the tricks with the power button and keyboard and shining a light on the screen to see if the back light was broken no luck.

I would like to try and fix it and have some experience fixing tablets and with PCs.

Not sure what model it is but the serial number ends in K7ZE4 and the back side is Black instead of Silver.

Thanks

First let’s figure out exactly what you have. Look on the bottom of the stand for the serial number and plug it in here then tell us what you have. It now requires the whole serial number to look a machine up.

Next tell us what you are seeing on the diagnostic LEDs.

UPDATE

Now that we know what your machine is and have the ejected the non-bootable CD, we do not know if there is a viable boot system on the internal hard drive. Do you have a retail version DVD of Snow Leopard, Or an external USB drive with a bootable system.

However, after looking up your machine, it should boot from the disk that was in it. Is it a retail disk or a grey (machine specific) disk?

I have listed the correct machine icon.

Tell us what you are seeing on the diagnostic LEDs

Normally on boot the machine tries to access the optical drive first. Please use a CD and insert it halfway into the drive slot to see if there is already a disk in it.

Update: I got out the CD by unplugging this tiny black connector with 2 wires coming from the CD drive. When I booted it up it popped out an apple CD for iMac g5 with additional info. I plugged the cable back in, booted it up an still no luck. The first 3 LEDs are on however.

OMG thanks, there's a CD in there that I can hear spin up. How should I get it out?

Update (06/12/2019)

The disk that came out was gray apple disk with additional information and some other stuff that I can't recall. I think the disk got damaged and won't work anymore cause I tried to pull it out before I got it out by opening up the iMac. I only have PCs at home so I don't have any other Mac os, but I do have windows 10 installation media on a USB. Do you know if the machine needs physical repairs or just some issue with the drives and what to boot with?

Thanks for your help so far!
