Error E101 after OSU1 Update, then E106 after resetting.

So as title says, I purchased an xbox off eBay with a update error I contacted the seller and he explained the situation he brought it off a guy at a car boot, the guy at the car boot couldn’t get it to update, so the eBay seller brought it took it home and tried the usual methods to reset the operating system and failed.

Fast forward to today and I purchased it off the eBay seller and when it arrive I noticed it had been opened and warranty stickers were on it that were not original to Microsoft the Microsoft warranty sticker was on but dislodged and basically fell off.

Now I opened up the Xbox and to my surprise everything looked normal there wasn’t any damage or any attempts at soldering chips or caps. ( I fully expected there to be some sign that the previous people had attempted to repair it. )

Anyway I followed some handy guides to get the OSU1 update’s and operating system files on to the original HDD in the xbox, it took quite a while but it eventually did it, I then noticed the HDD clicking. So I connected it to my PC and it was still clicking and nothing was appearing in my PC to indicate it had detected a new HDD, so I naturally connected it directly to the front USB 3.0 rather than the back USB 2.0 and for some reason the HDD sprung to life I managed to do the OSU1 update again but again it took a while and only after a few attempts, the HDD seemed to be dying to me.

I brought a new HDD off eBay a refurbished one from an old Xbox as I had hoped it would be coming with the content already preinstalled alas it did not, this drive too was clicking when I used my USB extension cable from the back of my PC but sprung to life when I connected it to the front.

However this one had no issues and was working flawlessly, I connected it to the Xbox and everything seemed to be going normally

First stage - installing update goes to 100%

Second stage - verifying goes to 100%

I believe this is where it powers down and it starts back up with error E101 my only option is to press continue, it then goes back to the update screen and is continuing with the stages.

Third stage - applying update

After about 32-34% the screen flashes blank and then pops back up does a further 1-2% on applying update and then flashes to the error E106 screen I have the options to restart, reset, offline update or turn off, I have tried all options no option will get me passed the 34% mark they all just go to 34% move 1-2% further then back to error E106.

After contacting the seller he tells me that he had contacted support and they said it needs to be repaired and the possible cause is a bad HDD / Flash cache problem. I even asked if they had swapped the blu ray drive and to my knowledge and from what he could gather we both concluded that it was the original but aren’t entirely sure, however I’ve seen that people who have swapped it get error E100 and I don’t so I have some hope that it is the original.

I have read a few other peoples posts on here who say the cached files are different than the files on the OSU1 update I have the latest files, I have tried the hard reset to clear the cache but that didn’t work.

I even read somewhere that people might have the insider xbox, whatever this is but I can’t tell if it is or not.

Any advice, shall I try reflowing the chips testing caps? or shall I just use it as spares repairs?
