hey i bought an iphone 4 off a friend recently that had suffered severe water damage, i let it dry nd got it to work but with no signal, so i was pretty much just using it as an ipod but recently my backlight seems to have stoped working also if anyone knows what i should do their advice would be much appreciated :)

Liquid damage always has the chance of messing with something on the phone. Seems to me as though the LCD connection has eroded over time due to being in contact with water and has now finally stopped working. Two things that could have happened.
1. The ConnecTION (on logic board) has become eroded
2 The ConnecTOR ribbon has become eroded
If the LCD Connector ribbon has become eroded it is as simple as replacing the screen. However if the connection has become eroded then you will have to get a new iPhone. A simple free way to check is to take the metal plate off the connections at the top of the iPhone and look for signs of erosion (rust, 'green' corrosion (water reacting with copper) etc.)

If no signs of erosion are seen then you should try replacing the screen and there will be a 50/50 chance that it will work again. Also check the antenna cable for signs of liquid damage/is it connected properly?
