My dryer is not maintaining heat .. already replaced fused and thermos
I have a Whirlpool dryer. Model WED5200VQ1. I have had it for 14 years. I got it used from an estate sale in fantastic condition. About 7 years ago the thermostat stopped working so the dryer wouldn’t dry. I changed out the thermostat and it worked fine for 7 years. Now it stopped drying again. I figured it was the thermostat again. When I pulled it apart, I check continuity on all the fuses, thermostats, and the heating element. They all had continuity, although pretty weak, but I decided that because it is an older model, to change out everything.
I purchase a kit that came with my model’s heating element, the two fuses, and three thermostats, even though I only needed two. I replaced everything and it ran well for about 2 or 3 loads. Then stopped drying again. It would heat up for about 2 mins or less then the heating element would go bad. I could see the hot glow and feel the heat. But after about 2 mins, it would turn off and not come back on. The kit came with two fuses for one spot. It is on the lower part of the heating element housing. The second fuse was something like L250-80. I initially installed the first fuse that matched the original one. But I just now replaced that one with the second one, the L250-80 in hopes that it solves my issue.
If it continues to fail heating, what else could be the issue? Any ideas? I really don’t want to pony up the $$$$ to purchase a new dryer when this one is such a good one.
Thanks for your help!!

@spydeyninja just to make sure I complete understand the background. You replaced pretty much everything. Dryer comes and works for a few loads than the heating element quits. If that is pretty much it can you double check the heating element with your meter?

Thanks for the response @oldturkey03
Yes, so I replaced the heating element, two thermal fuses, and 3 thermostats. The dryer ran for about 2 or three loads. But now the heating element turns off.
The dryer comes on, the drum spins. The heating element comes on for a few minutes and then quits. I have to open the dryer door and let everything cool down for about an hour. Then when I turn it on it will do the same thing. However, if I try and use it immediately after opening the door, the heating element will not come on.
I will test the continuity of the heating element.
My other thought is that the controller has gone bad for some reason ......

Hello! Did you ever solve your issue? I am having almost the exact same problem and ended up on this thread trying to solve it. We replaced the heating element on ours and it worked for about 3 loads and now nothing. I haven’t checked to see if it works after being left alone for a few hours. I cleaned everything out too in hopes that would solve this very frustrating issue.
