MacBook stuck on Apple logo. Weeks later, laptop won't turn on anymore

Brought my laptop to a service center and here is the diagnosis:

Symptoms:

  • Stuck/Frozen on Apple logo loading bar
  • Internal storage was intermittently not detected

Steps to reproduce:

  • Boot to a good OS, successful
  • Perform functionality test: Noticed internal storage was not detected in Disk Utility
  • Proceed with reformatting: Installed latest Mac OS Version Mojave 10.14.5, Reformatting was interrupted due to an unexpected shutdown, upon trying to reformat again, internal storage was not detected
  • Tried to reseat the flash storage, problem persists.
  • Substitute a known good flash storage, issue resolved

SSD replacement and repair would cost $693 USD. It's too expensive!

So I pulled it out from the service center and brought it to another center.

Diagnosis:

  • Test unit, unable to power on.
  • Used known good power adapter, same.
  • Reset SMC, same. Inspect inside, no sign of accidental liquid damage.
  • Notice also bloated condition of Battery. Performed minimal configuration and power on thru Logic Board power pads, same.
  • Reset Logic Board and test again, same.

Initially advise to replace Logic Board and Battery, other parts are not yet tested.

Logic board replacement and repair would cost $576 USD.

Help me out here, I'm not very techy. I called the 2nd service center and told me my laptop wouldn't power on, when the first service center already reported that it was only the SSD?

Based from the reports, what is it really? Should I have the SSD replaced first? Or the motherboard? The second service center told me that they have to replace the logic before they check the other parts.

If they have to replace both logic board and SSD, it would cost around $1270 USD Dam That! It's almost the same price as getting a new laptop.

What should I do? I can't afford to bring it to another service center because diagnosis costs $50 USD and I think I've already spent too much on diagnosis and still haven't proceeded with the actual repairs. I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Lets do a bit more diagnosis here. Do you have access to the needed tools to pop the bottom cover off? Review this iFixit guide MacBook Air 13" Early 2015 Battery Replacement we only need to get to Step 3 as we just want to disconnect the battery.

With the battery disconnected, press the power button for a minute. Then plug the MagSafe cord in your charger should show an Amber LED and if we are lucky here the system should start on its own.

Did it?
