No bootable device found on laptop.

I have an acer laptop. I get an error message that says no bootable device. I’ve been searching everywhere for what to do. I go into F2 and change it to legacy. When that happens it says “no operating system.” I can’t fix because I can’t get into command prompt or anything among those lines. I’ve tried to look everywhere to fix it. Someone help please!

Remove hard drive from computer and plug it in desktop computer as a slave drive to diagnose its health. If it comes up in File Explorer, run a chkdsk /f on it. Put it back in your laptop and power up. It may do another check disk on its own. If you cannot see it in another computer then you have a bad drive. If the drive is good but above does not solve your issue, remove RAM chips and unplug battery. Clean any dust around RAM, put ram and battery back in and try.

The error may be because the BIOS/UEFI on your motherboard cannot communicate with your hard drive. When this happens, its always best to try the least invasive solutions first to reestablish the connection.

(Make sure that you undo the “legacy” setting that you made in BIOS/UEFI before you try any fixes. This particular setting works with Windows 7 and previous editions only.)

First, in the BIOS/UEFI utlilty, see if you can change the laptop’s boot priority order so that the hard drive is first on the list of bootable devices. Then reboot the computer and see if it boots to Windows.

Second, boot from a Windows ISO image on a DVD drive or USB stick. If you are successful, then you have isolated the problem to the hard drive and its cables. Select the option to Repair your computer and perform a Startup repair. Also try a full hard drive repair by opening the command prompt and running chkdsk /r.

Third, open the case and remove and reattach all drive cables. Check the hard drive and cables for physical damage.

Last, exhange the hard drive cables and then the hard drive itself.

Forced shutdown your system by pressing the power key for little longer.

Now restart your laptop/desktop.

Press F2 key repeatedly and go to BIOS setup.

Now go into main and F12 Boot Menu: Enable.

Now to go Boot option/menu and change the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy.

Press F10 key and save and exit.

And now reboot your system
