Wont Power on When Plugged In?

My iphone 3gs worked fine and i tryed charging it for the first time with an off brand charger and it stopped working. I swapped the battery and it will turn on but as soon as you plug it in it shuts off immediately but soon as you unplug you can turn it back on. My guess is to replace the dock connector am i right or no?

it'd be my first choice for repair...simplest and easiest. the next is to check the fuses near the battery connection, then the power ic on the board. hopefully the charger just burned out the dock fuses.. I'd also try reseating the power flex.

if you've got a spare rear case I'd also try swapping the boards, then you'll know which direction to take.. ie if no problem in working case then swap dock/check power flex. if still same problem then it's on the board.

If I was going to need the fuses what is the part number?

I swapped the board into a rear case using a dock connector i know works and it still did the same thing. It has to be the fuse on the board, which fuse exactly is it? Also i might add when i plug in the charger if i listen closely i hear a buzzing sound but as soon as i unplug it stops is that the burnt out fuse?

i think from my previous link they are the dock fuses.. go back and read through that link and follow the embedded links for a more definitive answer. actually take a look at chapstser's answers. he calls them inductors?

из

I replaced them too and when I check with the multimeter the needle jumps so Id say there hooked up right even though it looks like crap. If it's not them and not the green fuse what else could it be?

Anyone Know??

there are more inductors/fuses on the back under the small metal cover..mentioned in that link i gave you. you need to look at huge amounts of this phone, the chips, the wiring between... you are after the needle, welcome to the haystack of iphone not booting!

What am i looking for and how do I get the metal shields off the back?
