Beater bar on my days on dc66

I have a dysentery DC 66 upright vacuum.

I have taken apart my beater bar on my power head - there is a longer brush and a shorter brush. There is a small drive shaft that drives these two brushes. In around the little drive shaft there is a lot of hair - can I take the drive shaft apart to clear away all the hair??????
