How to replace the Retina screen bezel?

The bezel of the 2018 Macbook Air Retina screen is extremely fragile and unprotected. The frame around it is almost even with the glass, so anything at all can damage the bezel …. and there goes the screen! That was my experience. I’ve since hooked the MBA to a monitor, which is fine for desktop work … but I bought it for mobile work as well. Has anyone attempted this repair? Is it doable by a user? Are there any deals on new bezels? (Apple charges $500 plus labor, about a third the cost of the machine.) . Thanks for tips.
