The Early 2009 Mac Pro—also known as the Mac Pro 4,1—introduced Intel's Nehalem architecture to Apple's line of professional desktop computers in March 2009. The Mac Pro 5,1 used the same interior design but received further CPU updates in 2010 and 2012.

DSI510 LED lights going off after attempted GPU upgrade. Help!

I tried to put a AMD Radeon RX 5700 in my 2009 (flashed to 5,1) Mac Pro. I saw online that you can use one of the SATA ports for additional power for the GPU. My mac pro now wont power on. When I power on the Mac Pro, the DSI510 LED lights on the CPU tray, next to both CPU’s light up RED and it wont boot at all. Did I just blow my CPUs? Will buying new ones fix the issue? Help!

@dutch070 how did you do "you can use one of the SATA ports for additional power for the GPU" that?

I got a SATA to PCIe 6pin adapter and plugged it into one of the SATA ports on my Mac Pro. That took care of the 6 pin and I did a Dual Mini 6pin to 8pin cable for the 8 pin on the 5700 GPU.

Put the old card back in and see if it runs correctly to help isolate the problem. Flashed cards are always iffy.

What OS X are you running?

Sorry. I flashed the Mac Pro version from a 4,1 to a 5,1. I didn’t flash the card. Old card already put back in and same issue. I already when through all of the LED diag steps by taking out each part and all seems to be working except for when I put the CPU tray in. The DIMS LEDs are working perfectly fine.

Did you use the DosDude flash or something else? After the flash were things working OK? I flashed my 2009 and am running Sierra. I am running the original nVidia GeForce GT 120 512MG GPU. Do you remember exactly the exact CPU set up you are running and have you ever upgraded or changed it? Can you post a photo of the less that are now showing up?

I flashed to 5,1 and was running high Sierra on my 2009 perfect. It was running with the stock 2x2.26 CPUs. Did not upgrade it. It was also the stock (upgraded) graphics card which was the 5870 Radeon 1g. Everything worked great until I plugged in the new RX 5700 with my 2 mini 6pins to 8pin and a SATA to 6pin.
