Laptop power up but have black screen

The "black screen of death" is usually very easy to repair on a laptop. The screen might remain black when there is a corrupted graphics driver or a problem with the LCD display back light. To test the display, attach an external monitor and restart the computer. This test is helpful if the display is black but you can hear that the computer is operating.

If the external monitor works, the trouble is with the display or its cables. You should also confirm that your memory is properly installed.

You can also try to turn your computer by pressing and holding down the start button. Next, unplug the computer and remove the battery. Press and hold down the start button for about 60 seconds. Release the button and plug in the computer. Press the start button and the display should return. Getting no results usually indicates a bad motherboard.
