Hi Gyasi, and when you will remove the battery, will the laptop start? Or just your controls LED are off but working properly?

Hi,

Is it charging or not charging? You question title says yes but the body of the question says no!

Does your laptop’s charger have a light in it and it is on telling you that the power is on in the charger?

If it has no indicator light, use a Voltmeter to measure the output voltage of the charger and check that it is 19 VDC

If it has an indicator light that is on try a power reset on the laptop and check if that restores the laptop to normal.

To do this, disconnect the charger from the laptop and then remove the battery from the laptop.

Press and hold the laptop’s Power button for 30 seconds and then release.

Plug in and switch on the charger (leave the battery out at this stage).

Try to turn on the laptop.

If it starts allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, wait a few minutes for the HDD activity to settle down and then turn off the laptop in the normal way.

When it has completely shutdown, switch off the charger and disconnect it from the laptop. Reinsert the battery into the laptop and then reconnect the charger and switch it on.

Try to turn on the laptop.

If it starts allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, wait a few minutes for the HDD activity to settle.

Check the battery charge status and if charging allow it to fully charge before switching off the charger and disconnecting it from the laptop

If it has an indicator light that is not on you have a faulty charger or a faulty wall outlet.

Use a Voltmeter to test it the charger is supplying 19V DC on the output plug .

If not you have a faulty charger.

If you measure 19V DC at the charger plug and the laptop doesn’t start after a power reset

You’ll have to open the laptop and test if the DC-In jack -example only is OK by using a Voltmeter and measuring the voltage at the jack cable connector on the motherboard.

Here’s a link to the ifixit Asus X55C Motherboard Replacement guide. It is handy as it shows how to open the laptop so that access to the DC-In jack cable etc is possible.

Here’s a link to a video that shows the dis-assembly of the laptop. At 5:27 minutes into the video the DC-IN jack is seen being handled.

If you get the correct voltage at the end of the DC-In jack flex cable and there are no indications at all of power on the laptop then you have a motherboard problem
