generic question about MacBooks and hard drives.

Hi team! I’ve run into contradicting information on google, so I’ve come to the people who know best to help me resolve it.

MacBook pro. I’ve been told by some, that they don’t take 3rd party hard drives, and some people have said they do. other people say only some models take them.

My request is;

1) Do they, or don’t they?

and

2) if only some models, is there a list of MacBooks stating whether or not they do?

It depend on the exact model you are talking about. Some do some don’t. Be specific.

Pre-retina models use SATA hard drives. Post Retina machines -some have changeable sticks, some are integrated.

as stated in the question, i do not have an exact model to go by, this is a general information question. i am looking for a list that which i can reference when someone brings a device in, thus not having to bug the forum for each model.

Pre-retina models (mid-2012) use SATA hard drives. Post Retina machines -some have changeable sticks, some are integrated. Look up individual macs on https://everymac.com

older Macs use slower drives.

Your question is like asking, "I want to buy a bra for my friend, what size do I get." Answer - It depend on a couple of factors.
