PS4 Japan 100v to 220v

So this is how it is, I have a PS4 which is from Japan that I wanted to use here in the Philippines. But, underneath the unit it only says 100v~2.5a, I just wanted to know if I can use it in a 220v? If there is someone who has a unit that has the same label and used it in other volts.

Hi btf. just wanted to ask if you managed to use your Japan PS4 in the Philippines using 220v without a transformer?

btf.tristan “The power supply is rated at an AC Input of 100-240 volts. This means you can take your game around the world with your trusty PS4 always at your side; just remember to bring your power socket adapters.” The reason why yours says 100V is because that is the common household voltage in Japan. You will always have the voltage for whatever Country the PS4 was sold to, printed on those labels. If you have any doubt etc. you can always use a step down transformer (unnecessary).

Actually that's pretty common outside of TVs - it isn't always on the label but most equipment is 100-240V SMPS internally. It's laser printers and TVs that tend to be linear supply devices. You absolutely need to double check, but 100-240V SMPS devices like the PS4 (but printed with the common country voltage) are common.

With laser printers you need a linear supply due to the voltage differences and with TVs it's purely out of spite (which is why a lot of the Vizios are linear; they hate repair AND importation). It makes zero sense on a TV to me because linear is more expensive then SMPS, but manufacturers will pay more out of spite if they really hate repair. I have a M220VA and it says 120V, but it also has a permanent power cord - even if it was SMPS internally, it would need to be modified or adapted.

Yeah to confirm you can open up the bottom cover of the PS4 and remove the power supply. Under there shows the 240-110v input voltage range.

@benjamen50 You'll have trouble with online games if it's region locked to Japan (IP will be different, which is why) and lose some DLC if Japan specific, but the base games will run fine. That's it with Sony and it's been that way since the PS3. The PS3 region lock was for PS1/2 BC.

I think the PS4 is entirely region free and dropped the BC region coding as well.

Well, another problem I noticed is the power cord of my PS4, it only indicates 7A 125V, do I need to purchase another one so I can use it in a 220v port?

@btf.tristan it'll be fine to use.
