How to reinstall MacOS after installing a new hard drive

I upgraded the hard drive to a SSD. Now there’s a update that won’t install due to not enough space on the new hard drive. It’s a 1 TB drive!!! What did I do wrong???

Let's see what Disk Utility shows us. Click on the left column listing first hi-lite the top drive Icon so you see the raw disk allotment, then click on the next lower Container and then the lower Volume. Take a snapshot of each and post them here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

Have you checked the partitions on the drive? Sometimes it could be trying to install to a “Recovery Partition” that some devices make, which usually is around ~500 MB. If you have another computer, pop the drive out, plug it in, and try reformatting to reclaim all of the drive space. (Use Disk Management)

Or, you could just pop into Disk Utility on the install to see if the thing’s being recognized in the first place/make a new partition.
